The last 20 years has seen huge improvements in the technology available to doctors helping preterm babies take their first breaths.

This has not only led to the survival of increasingly smaller and more premature babies but also helps to protect the babies’ lungs in the long term. Early Lives is raising funds to purchase the latest such equipment; mobile non-invasive breathing support devices for use in the labour ward, which mean that preterm babies can be cared for as they take their first breaths without the need for invasive ventilators.

Dr Latha Srinivasan who is leading this project says “we are continually improving our resuscitation and stabilisation of preterm babies. The support from Early Lives will allow us to use the latest technologies to provide our preterm babies with the very best care and outcomes”.
