To provide the best possible care requires a highly trained nursing team.

Early Lives is proud to fund nurses to attend courses and conferences to enhance the clinical care that they provide to babies on the unit. Matron Becky Shelly says “With the loss of nursing bursaries we have had to increasing rely on charitable funds to support nurse training and development. This support is essential for the neonatal unit at UCLH to help us recruit and retain our world class nursing team”.

As well as being well-trained, it is essential that the neonatal staff are well-rested. Currently, the most neglected area on the neonatal unit is the staff team room. In this room, the neonatal team take their breaks, eat meals and have meetings and teaching sessions. Early Lives is planning to support a redesign and refurbishment of this room so that our staff are looked after as they in turn care for babies and families on the unit.
